Washing Silk Pajamas

Now you own a gorgeous new set of silk lingerie and you want to make sure it will last you a really long time. It's actually very easy to make this happen.

Step 1: Get the Right Detergent

You will need an organic and biodegradable detergent to make sure you protect your silk. 100% silk is fully organic and chemicals can very easily damage the integrity of the silk.

There other options and most health food stores like Whole Foods will carry a large selection. You can also use bamboo shampoo which has very little chemicals and is very gentle.

Step 2: Hand Wash Only

It's very easy to hand wash the silk lingerie. It's slightly more difficult to wash the bed sheets, but even then it's not that bad.

For the lingerie and pajamas, wash your sink out to make sure there are no chemicals from cleaners or other residue on the surface.

Then put a tiny amount of detergent in the sink and very gently slosh the pajamas around. You do not need to scrub, wring, or bunch the pajamas at all.

Drain the sink and rinse the pajamas under cold water until the soap is gone. Then just hang up to dry. The wrinkles will naturally fall out and silk drys very quickly.

Step 3: How to Deal With Wrinkles

If you do have wrinkles, it's very easy to get rid of them. You actually have a few options.

• Iron - Silk can be ironed very safely, but it's best to iron on the non-shiny side of the silk. This will protect the natural sheen the charmeuse weave gives.
• Steamer - This is one of my favorite methods as steaming is fast and very effective with silk and not damaging to silk at all.
• Spray Bottom - If you have wrinkles, just hang your silk up and spray with a bottle of clean water until wet. Then just let dry and the wrinkles will be gone.

It's that easy to wash your silk lingerie and pajamas. This will ensure that you can use them for years and years and will make it very easy to build up a nice collection.
